Sacred Places
My inspiration came from visiting a sacred cave. When inside the cave in the darkness there was an eerie sense that the rocks were alive and imbedded with history, there seemed to be spirits within the cave. It may have been the darkness, stillness or colour and formation of the rocks. But you could clearly understand why this was much an ancient sacred place for our ancestors. There felt as if there was another dimension within the cave, spirits if you like. The statues and prints that resulted from this arose from connecting the previous terms work. I did not know what to with my installation, so I decided to re purpose it. By bundling it up and felting it together. I had no idea if it would work or not. It did, and the resulting sculpture that was born out of the washing machine. As if a rebirth of materials, reformed and this is what my prints and other works were based on.
